Roof-Mounted Solar in Rowlett
Panels on your roof only work out if the roof under them is sound. So we start up top and in the attic, checking shingles, decking, rafters and your electrical panel. You hear plain findings and see a layout that fits your home before a single mount goes in.
What Roof-Mounted Solar Is and When It Fits
Roof-mounted solar means panels sit on aluminum rails, and those rails are held by mounts screwed into your rafters. Each mount gets flashing under the shingles so water runs over it, not into the hole. Done right, the roof stays dry and the panels stay put through wind and storms.
It is the right call when your home has roof faces that get sun most of the day, usually south or west, and the roof has plenty of life left. It is the wrong call when the shingles are near the end, because pulling panels off later to reroof costs you real money.
That is why we start with an inspection, not a sales pitch. If your roof is not ready, we tell you, show you the photos and help you plan the timing. In North Texas, hail is part of life, so we look hard at shingle wear and past storm damage before we draw a single panel on the plan.

What You Get on a Roof-Mounted Job
- 01
A close look up top and underneath
Before any planning, one of us gets on the roof and another climbs into the attic. We look for worn or cracked shingles, soft spots in the decking, undersized or widely spaced rafters, and stains from old leaks. Every problem we spot goes into a set of photos you keep.
- 02
Shade and layout check
We map where shade falls from trees, chimneys and vents through the day. Panels go where they will actually make power, not just where they fit.
- 03
Flashed mounts into rafters
Every mount is fastened into a rafter, not just the decking. Each one is flashed and sealed so the roof sheds water the way it did before.
- 04
Racking and tidy wiring
Rails are set level and wires are clipped up off the shingles. Loose wiring that rubs on the roof is a common cause of problems later, so we keep it neat.
- 05
Electrical tie-in
We run conduit from the array to your electrical panel and inverter. If your panel is too small or full, we tell you up front instead of finding out on install day.
- 06
Permits and cleanup
We pull the city permit and handle the utility paperwork. When we leave, the yard and driveway are swept and cleared of screws and scraps.
Questions about Roof-Mounted Solar?
Call(972) 458-5527Signs Roof-Mounted Solar Makes Sense for Your Home
Your roof is fairly new
A roof with many good years left is the best base for panels. You avoid paying to remove and reset them a few years from now.
Summer bills keep climbing
If your air conditioner runs hard all summer, that is the load solar is good at offsetting. Long sunny days work in your favor.
You have open south or west roof faces
Roof sections with little shade from trees or neighbors make the most power. We confirm this on site rather than guessing from a satellite photo.
Your yard has no room for a ground array
Most lots do not have spare sunny ground. The roof is space you already own.
You plan to stay a while
Solar pays back over years. If you expect to be in your home for the long haul, it is worth a close look.
How a Roof-Mounted Job Runs
- 1
Site visit
We spend time on the roof, in the attic and at your electrical panel. We ask about your bills and how you use power. Nothing gets recommended until we have looked.
- 2
Findings and a layout
You get our findings in plain words, with photos, plus a panel layout and a written estimate. If the roof or panel needs attention first, we say so here.
- 3
Permits and approvals
We send plans to the city and the utility. If you have an HOA, we help put the layout together for their review.
- 4
Install day
Most homes take one to two days. We set mounts and flashing, hang the rails and panels, then run conduit and make the electrical connections. Before we pack up, we walk the job with you.
- 5
Final sign-off and power-on
A city inspector comes out to check the work. After that, the utility grants permission to operate and the system goes live. We show you how to read your monitoring so you can track what the panels produce.
What Drives the Cost of a Roof System
We cannot give you a fair number until we have stood on your roof, so pricing comes after the site visit. The written estimate breaks the job into line items, so nothing is lumped together or hidden. Here is what tends to push that total up or down.
- How many panels you need
- Your past power bills set the panel count. We match the array to what your home really uses, even if the roof could hold more, because extra panels add cost without much payback.
- Pitch and stories
- Steep pitches and two-story homes need more safety setup and more hours. Single-story roofs with a gentle slope go faster.
- Shingle, tile or metal
- Composition shingles take standard mounts. Tile and some metal roofs call for special hardware and slower, more careful work.
- Electrical panel condition
- An older or full panel may need an upgrade before it can take solar. We check this on the first visit so it is in the estimate, not a surprise.
- Layout complexity
- Panels spread across several roof faces need more rails, more wiring and more labor than one clean section.
Roof-Mounted Solar Questions
Will putting holes in my roof cause leaks?
Not when it is done right. Each mount goes into a rafter and gets flashing that slides under the shingles above it, so water runs over the top. Leaks usually come from mounts that miss the rafter or skip flashing, and we do neither.
My shingles are getting old. Can I still go solar?
Maybe, but probably not yet. If the inspection shows worn or damaged shingles, you will see it in the photos and hear it from us straight. We do not do roofing, so the next step would be having a roofer replace it. After that, we return and finish the solar plan on a fresh roof.
What happens to the panels in a hailstorm?
Solar glass is tempered and rated for impact, so ordinary hail usually bounces off. Very large hail can still crack a panel, the same way it can bruise shingles. If a storm does damage the array, our solar repair service can check it and swap out broken panels.
Can my HOA stop me from adding solar?
Texas law limits how far an HOA can go in blocking solar, but most still want to see plans first. Some ask for panels to sit on certain roof faces. We help you put the layout together for their approval.
Do I need batteries with roof panels?
No. Most roof systems work fine tied to the grid without batteries. If you want backup power during outages, we can talk about battery storage during our visit and plan for it now or later.
